Staying at a motel in Hanover. Caught up with some other thru hikers finally.


Looks like he just crossed the border from Vermont to New Hampshire. Last two states: New Hampshire and Maine. Glad he met up with some other hikers. Will need some compadres for the challenging times ahead.

Rutland, VT. Twelve Tribes Hostel. 




I did my usual Google search about where he's staying. This place is run by a religious organization "cult" The Twelve Tribes. I read a few sites about it. I called him to advise him to not "drink the Kool Aid."
He knew about it already. Not to worry, "I'm a liberal kid from New York."

Actually when I called, he was lounging in a hammock reading a book and had a good veggie meal for dinner. The place was recommended by other hikers. He'll be moving onwards tomorrow to Killington Mt.

Planning to get in touch with Achilles(who is ahead of him) on how to prepare for the White Mountains in New Hampshire. He said he may be calling us with a list of things to send to him. He may need some winter gear. The mountains are known for being winter-like unexpectedly.

Hiked with two guys from Arizona today. Happy to be back deep in the woods again. Last night watched the sun set from the fire tower, and this morning watched the sun rise:)  A little rain today.

Keeping up a fast pace, expecting to slow down in New Hampshire when he encounters the White Mountains.

Meeting up with a guy he met in VA who lives near North Adams. Then next day will be in Vermont. Skies have cleared, temperature up, beautiful weather welcome and plans to stay around for a few days:)

Got a new phone. The old phone had some water damage. Hopefully, no more phone problems.

Expecting to slow down for a day or two due to all the rain. However, long term goal is to complete trail by early July. Looking forward to future. White Mountains in New Hampshire are supposed to be the most beautiful, and Maine the most challenging.

Thunderstorms forecasted for tonight. Hiked 25 miles today. Sounded good...strong...happy.

10 states behind him, now four to go...Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Just opened email from Aunt Elsie. Feeling better. I was getting a bit nervous, because I haven't heard from him since Friday night. Below is the email he sent to her. Also some new pictures-Yeah!

So for the past few days my phone has been acting kinda weird (shutting off or restarting randomly, taking really long to turn on, etc.) and at this point it looks like it's totally broken (not responding to charges, dead, etc.) so for the time being I can only contact thru email.  If you could pass on the news to my mom it'd be much appreciated.  Other than that everything is fine, I'm currently at a friend's house in PA, but have hiked halfway thru NJ, will be in NY in two days.

Weeks Lane Crew is his friends from the neighborhood. Spending the weekend at Danny's family Poconos country house.
