Hiked to Fontana Dam Shelter. It is considered the Ritz of shelters (except for the occasional mouse).
It was a drizzly day. He shared the hike with two brothers out on a day hike. He has the shelter to himself for the night. Said he's enjoying the view. Onward to the Smoky's tomorrow. Weather looks sunny and mild.

At Brown Fork Gap Shelter. Alone tonight. Daigo went home, because his foot was hurting him. Paul hopes to meet up with Daigo and a few others later on the trail. So far, Paul's feet have remained in good condition.Tomorrow rain is in the forecast. If it's not too bad, he'll continue hiking and expects to reach the Smoky Mountains. I could sense the excitement about this in his voice. Upon entering TN, he has to register for a Hiker's License to proceed along the trail. Almost official!

Had a late start out of Franklin. Still hiking with Diago and another guy. Made 11 miles to Wayah Shelter.
http://nantahalahikingclub.org/oldSite/wayah_shelter.htm
Hoping to make 20 miles tomorrow. Weather is better.
He was interested to know what's new at home and with family. Not much to tell on this end. Same old, same old.

Hiked with four other guys 10 miles to Franklin. The guy from NYC will be staying there for two days; he plans to catch up with him in the future. Diago, a real Mountain Man from TN, joined them on the walk to Franklin. Diago offered to hook Paul up with a ride back to the trail tomorrow. He has "connections" according to Paul.
The reason for going to Franklin in the first place is ...Food. He thought he had more than he did when leaving Hiawassee, then realized he only had a lot of powdered milk.

11:07 A.M -just received a text from Paul:
Hiked all day with a guy from NYC. Hiking now to Franklin, NC. There was no service at the shelter we were at and it was freezing, so we called it an early night. Everything's fine. Love ya.
Ahh, we can exhale. Franklin is a town about 10 miles off the trail. Not sure if he will be staying there tonight. Hopefully, he'll be able to call:)

10:03 PM still no call from Paul. I suppose there is no service where he is. I hate this. Hearing his voice every night means everything to me right now. It helps to keep us calm and optimistic here in New York. Will post as soon as I hear from him.
