Spoke to Paul tonight:
He was resting in a hammock in the backyard of the hostel. He's in Andover, Maine.
http://www.pineellislodging.com/ Said it's a really nice place. Small, lovely town. Everything is in walking distance. Replenishing food supply.
Presently by himself. The two guys from Kentucky are about two days ahead. Paul and the other hiker, the lady from Montreal, hiked together for about three weeks. Paul had to slow down, because he was experiencing shin splints http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/shin-splints He treated his injury with heat packs and a zero day or two. She was a section hiker (only hikes parts of trail at a time), and had to return to Montreal after completing the White Mountains.
Now, he's feeling better and would like to catch up with the guys from Kentucky. However, Paul doesn't want to rush things now. I advised him to savor each minute. When it's all done, it's back to "the same old, same old."
He has about 250 miles left. His goal is to finish by....July 1.
